Honda’s original Urban EV, now only known as ‘e’ has been a firm favourite of the public and the press from the start. In the meantime, the first driving impressions, a video and further technical data have become available.

Honda has published further information on its first fully electric production model. The Japanese report shows that the Honda e’s battery will hold 35.5 kWh, a figure that already circulated, as had the range of 200 kilometres. The CCS charge port sits at the front of the electric vehicle. The motor produces around 110 kW and delivers more than 300 Nm of torque.

The battery of the small car weighing 1.5 tons is installed between the axles, which enables a 50:50 weight distribution. With the energy storage located this low, the centre of gravity of the entire vehicle is only 50 centimetres above the ground, according to Honda.

The first driving reports show what this means in everyday life: the Honda e lies stable on the road. At the same time, the testers write that the suspension is comfortable, but not too soft.

According to Honda, it has received over 25,000 expressions of interest for the Honda e from all over Europe. The retro-look battery electric car is the first model to benefit from a new Japanese electric car platform. Further compact electric models based on the platform are to follow, such as the series version of the Honda Sports EV Concept electric sports car.

The Honda e can currently be reserved in the UK, Germany, France and Norway. When other countries follow is unknown at this stage. Also, the electric car’s price has not been revealed but will range in the area of 30,000 euros. Deliveries are set to begin in spring 2020.
